The Youth Classic is for student artists enrolled in grades 5–12, or closest equivalent. Sculpting begins at 10 a.m., March 14 and ends at 6 p.m., March 17, with an awards ceremony on March 18 at 8PM.
The Youth Classic will have 15 spaces available. Teams may consist of 1 or 2 persons. One ice block, 3’ x 5’x 4,’ will be placed vertically, horizontally, or flat according to the sculptor’s request. Ice Alaska will provide a tool kit for each sculpting team. An experienced artist is available at the competition site at all times to assist with chainsaw cuts, to answer questions, and offer technical assistance allowed within the competition guidelines.
There is no entry fee to compete in the Youth Classic. Participants are provided the noon and evening meals during the competition period. All participants must have a parent/ legal guardian sign a consent form to allow the sculptor to compete. Awards of medals and gift certificates are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
All sculptors must attend a sculpting and safety class either through a school program, or an Ice Alaska-sponsored class. There will be an Ice Alaska class held on Monday, March 14th, 9-3.
