Fee Dispute Resolution:
Mediates and arbitrates fee disputes pursuant to RPC 1.5(f). Committee members must meet required qualifications.
Grievance:
Receives and investigates complaints from the public on ethical matters and writes recommendations/submits written reports for discussion. Committee members must meet required qualifications.
Indigent Representation:
Works in conjunction with the PD’s Office to coordinate and maintain the attorney appointment list for criminal indigent defendants. Committee members must meet required qualifications.
Judicial Nominating:
Coordinates the balloting process of the MCB for choosing candidates to submit to the North Carolina governor in filling district court judge vacancies.
MEMBERSHIP & PROGRAMS COMMITTEES
Bar Leadership Institute:
Operates to fulfill the purpose of the BLI program, which encourages lawyers in the development of their professional and leadership skills within the Bar, Foundation and legal profession.
Communications:
Develops the communication process among members of the MCB through publications including the monthly newsletter, MeckBar.org, other electronic communications and the membership directory.
Continuing Legal Education:
Develops, implements, and oversees all CLE programs for the MCB in conformance with the rules of the North Carolina State Bar CLE Board.
Diversity & Inclusion:
Provides recommendations for addressing matters related to diversity and inclusion; and proposes methods for measuring the success of efforts to address these issues.
Lawyer Referral Service:
Oversees the ABA-approved program that refers people who can afford to pay for legal services with an experienced MCB attorney for a reduced consultation fee.
Professionalism, Lawyer Life and Culture:
Seeks to enhance and support the Mecklenburg County legal community, through the active development and promotion of educational programs, resources, and mentoring relationships.
EVENTS & NETWORKING COMMITTEES
Law & Society:
Plans annual Law & Society Luncheon, including arranging the keynote speaker, soliciting table sponsors and determining event agenda. Event proceeds benefit the MBF.
Law Day:
Coordinates annual Law Day Luncheon, including arranging the keynote speaker, soliciting table sponsors, determining event agenda and selecting the Liberty Bell Award winner.
Memorials:
Arranges and provides memorial services for deceased Bar members in open court when the families so desire.
Social & Networking:
Plans a variety of social and networking opportunities to promote collegiality and a cohesive membership, including the Lawyers' Luncheon Series and Holiday Party.
Sports:
Coordinates all MCB sporting opportunities, including basketball and softball leagues and any additional sporting competitions developed.
PLANNING & OPERATIONS COMMITTEES
Audit:
Works with Bar leadership to ensure the independent auditor(s) receive all necessary information during the annual audit, reviews audit report and reports the findings to MCB leadership.
Finance:
Oversees the preparation of the MCB’s annual operational budget; recommends budget modifications and their financial impact; reviews the financial impact of other MCB initiatives as requested; recommends financial policy updates;
VOLUNTEER COMMITTEES
Community Services:
Seeks to improve and prioritize the Bar's volunteer outreach opportunities and to collaborate with the community on legal issues, the legal system, and school and community needs.
Pro Bono & Legal Recruitment:
To recruit legal volunteers and provide direct case placement for representation and who are not served elsewhere; and to recruit members for pro bono opportunities with legal service organizations as requested.
YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION (YLD) COMMITTEES
Must be a member of the MCB YLD to participate on these committees

YLD Community Service:
Coordinates relevant public service opportunities for YLD members.
YLD Connectivity:
Ensures YLD members are actively participating in the goals and missions of the MCB.
YLD Legal Assistance:
Organizes projects which provide legal assistance to the citizens of Mecklenburg County and/or North Carolina.
YLD Education:
Organizes activities that educate the Mecklenburg County community about the law.
YLD Membership:
Focuses on increasing YLD membership and ensuring that the YLD meets the needs of its members.
YLD Social:
Prepares quarterly socials for the YLD and provides other events and gatherings which promote the interests of YLD.
MECKLENBURG BAR FOUNDATION COMMITTEES
Ayscue Professionalism Award Committee:
Selects the recipient of the Ayscue Professionalism Award - a current or former member of the Mecklenburg County Bar - to recognize exemplary professionalism.
Development Committee:
Develops and implements financial development plan for the Foundation. The Committee uses the Lawyers' Impact Fund (unrestricted fund of the Bar Foundation Fund) campaign as its primary fundraising tool.
Grant Review Committee:
Oversees implementation of Grant Request Application process, reviews grant requests and makes recommendations to the MBF Board of Directors.
McMillan Fellowship Committee:
Selects and supports summer fellowships to law students interested in pursuing a career with nonprofit or government agencies in Mecklenburg County. Coordinates annual McMillan Fellowship Fund Dinner.
