BREAKOUT DESCRIPTIONS
SPORTS PARENTING
Presented by Olathe (Ks.) School District Director of Athletics Lane Green, parents will learn how to best support their student-athletes in and out of competition. Everyone involved in youth sports has a specific role. Green will show parents how to thrive in their role by “releasing their children to the game” - thereby helping them be the very best athletes and citizens they can be.
FOLLOW YOUR FRIENDS: USING SOCIAL MEDIA AS A POSITIVE TOOL IN YOUTH SPORTS
Solomon Alexander, Foundation Director of the St. Louis Sports Commission, will show the importance of social media in effectively promoting your youth sports program. Facebook, Twitter and Blogger are among the most popular social media platforms and have received an unfair amount of criticism. Participants will learn what friends, followers and subscribers are and how to use them to convey specific messages and create a more positive sports environment for kids.
AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION (AHA) FRIENDS & FAMILY CPR ANYTIME
AHA certified CPR trainers Sarah Spencer (ATC), Todd Williams (RN), and Lisa Callahan (RRT) will present the basics of Child CPR (including breaths) and child choking relief. The course incorporates AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching technique for teaching CPR. Each participant will receive their own free CPR kit –which provides for convenient knowledge and skills refresher. CPR is an important life-saving skill for youth sports coaches and parents to learn. It helps to solidify the safe and healthy sports environment children need. This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn basic CPR skills and does not need a course completion card.
