(See descriptions below. These definitions will vary from church to church and many will overlap. Just indicate which one is the closest to describing your congregation. If you have one of each, select the one with the most attendance.)
LITURGICAL - This congregation might be described as "formal”. There may be an order of worship that is outlined by the denomination and/or church year. Congregational singing is more likely to be hymns as opposed to gospel songs. The hymns are vertical - man to God - more than the outreach of the evangelical congregation. There may be limited use of praise and worship choruses. Choir music is more likely to be classified as “classical” or more of the standard choral literature than the latest “pop” sounding presentation. The church itself is more likely to major more on healing of social ills as opposed to the soul-winning of the evangelical congregation. The minister is more likely to wear a robe than in the evangelical congregation. This worship may sometimes be referred to as “high church". The worship leader may also be the organist and direct from the organ bench.
EVANGELICAL - This congregation might be described as “informal”. There may be an order of service in the worship time but it may not follow the Church year or any set liturgy and may be changed according to the worship leader’s feel for the service. Services tend to be more emotional than the liturgical congregation. There may be clapping and use of praise and worship choruses and/or gospel songs which are more vertical and with emphasis on winning others to Christ. This congregation may, or may not have an organ. In larger churches accompaniment will probably be by an orchestra or praise band. There is also a widespread use of a “Praise Team” of selected vocalists who in some ‘seeker’ churches may even take the place of the choir. The worship leader will probably be leading from the platform either with his/her voice or with traditional conducting patterns.

MUSIC STYLE - Which of these best describes your congregational music?

A copy of a current bulletin with a list of song selections would also be helpful in identifying your song styles and preferences for worship.
